Good afternoon!
I wanted to write a quick update to clarify how dismissal happens at the end of the school day. Once our class arrives at the porch, I ask that each student check out with me -- "Miss Wilson, my mom is here. Can I please go?" (or something similar). This is good practice at asking permission, versus telling. Many students at this age need some extra practice at asking vs. telling. Also, this is an important safety procedure. I have students check out with me so that I can mark who has left (with an appropriate pick up person). I NEVER want a parent to show up to pick their child up and have to say, "I sent them home with someone else," or, "I don't know where they went."
Please help your child remember to check out with me when you pick them up. Most of the students are doing really well with this, especially since 9 out of 15 students are new to 3:00pm dismissal at SCS. However, occasionally a student sees Mom or Dad and heads off to go home without telling me. Usually, I'm able to see them as they go; however, my preference would be to have verbal confirmation that they are leaving. I would rather err on the side of caution than to EVER have an incident where a child goes missing.
Thanks for your help with this!
God Bless,
Miss Wilson
